Hippo rejuvenates Hambleton Leisure Centre

Hambleton Leisure Centre in NorthallertonHippo Leisure has recently installed the latest in interactive water play equipment at Hambleton Leisure Centre in Northallerton, Yorks.

Working to a brief to bring vitality, visual impact and multiple water features to the toddler age group, Hippo were able to utilise existing water features including a bubblebed and finger jets to power the new play equipment.

The main focus is centred around a bright, interactive Waterball and 4 arm interactive mast. A themed fish shower, waterwheel, tipping buckets and pipefalls provide the high level anticipatory water play whilst the multiple water jets and fill & spill buckets keep the low level interactive. At 1.6m diameter, the Waterball creates up to 10m2 of active water play. Catering for both older and younger children the Waterball provides a stimulating, sensory and challenging play scenario.

To extend this area beyond the boundaries of the Waterball, Hippo designed further interactive water play stations by adding in a combination of their new Splash Toys. Two themed fish squirts installed over existing finger jets, provide the water feed into an interactive water channel and a fill & spill bucket station.

The Splash Toys challenge the toddler swimmers to move the water down the channel, through gates and back into the pool or to fill & spill the bucket station.

Tom Stuart, Assistant Manager at Hambleton Leisure Centre said:

"Hambleton District Council has invested more than £70,000 in the Northallerton leisure centre including the flume refurbishment and the installation of an interactive water ball with fill and spill buckets - to provide a stimulating and exciting play scenario for children. We aim to create a fun and interactive environment in the pool and are committed to continuously improving our facilities. This project has gone some way to transform our pool into a state of the art facility for children and young people – one of our priority groups."
