Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre is set for refurbishment, complete with a full suite of Hippo Leisure interactive water play features.
The brief:
After undertaking customer surveys to identify what could be enhanced at Bury Leisure Centre, it was highlighted that community members would welcome new water play features in the children’s pool.
Hippo Leisure needed to create a vibrant and exciting space where fun and learning come together, with various features to engage children, encourage creativity, and promote physical activity while ensuring safety and inclusivity.
The concept:
As experts in interactive water play, we proposed a mixture of water jets, interactive features, channels, gentle water flows, high level features and big splash play. These elements were chosen to encourage exploration and play, with various heights strategically designed for children of all ages and abilities.
The space will be split into two zones, both offering multi-sensory experiences for young ones.
The 67 m² splash pad will be installed on a raised platform deck, and will include:
- Spray hoop
- Water web
- Interactive wall
- Inground jets
- Water cascade
- Bench along the side wall
The second zone is the deep end, which will include:
- Extra large tipping bucket and splash board
- Pipefalls arms
- Themed squirts
- A water arch will bridge the pool, complete with four themed fish squirts and three large tipping buckets
The combination of these features across the leisure pool will provide memorable experiences for families. Children of all ages will delight in splashing, and being splashed, learning to take turns and interact with other children. They will also develop confidence around water, forming positive associations.
Hippo Leisure is proud to support this project, and are looking forward to the positive impact that this new space will bring to the community of Bury St Edmunds in late 2026.
